JNC 7 Blood Pressure Goals
National guidelines established by the Seventh Report of the Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure (JNC 7) classifies normal blood pressure as less than 120 mm Hg over 80 mm Hg. In patients with high blood pressure, JNC 7 recommends a treatment goal of:
- Less than 140 over 90 (140/90) for most adults
- Less than 130 over 80 (130/80) if you have diabetes or chronic kidney disease
Your doctor will determine what BP goal is best for you based on other risk factors you may have.
